Mutual Cultural Accommodation in Relation to Northern Ireland: Reciprocity, Leadership, Tolerance, Generosity, Compromise, Respect, Listening, Inclusion and Balance

Mutual accommodation can in theory benefit any society. As part of an evolving culture of tolerance, it can help lower the temperature of contested narratives, reduce stress, and make people happier. The question at the heart of this paper is whether mutual accommodation could help in practice, here and now. And if so, starting with Catholic/Nationalist/Republican (CNR) accommodation of Protestant/Dissenter/Unionist/Loyalist (PUL) identities, what practical steps could be considered?

This paper on cultural accommodation, presented at Féile an Phobail Belfast in August 2023, can be found here.
