SNP MP to Speak at  Irishborderpoll.com Event

We are delighted to welcome SNP MP for Aberdeenshire North and Moray East Seamus Logan, as a speaker at our forthcoming debate on February 11th –  The Union isn’t working: How do we exit?

Writing in the ‘National’ newspaper, Seamus argued that, “In Scotland the options of consent, choice, and sovereignty are off the menu thanks to Starmer. He went on to say, “we can do better (in Scotland), we will do better, we can go our own way from this increasingly dysfunctional disunited Kingdom”. The headline of his piece captured the contemporary zeitgeist perfectly – “Here’s why the Union is dying and why Scotland must be independent”. We look forward to Seamus elaborating on the case for the end of the Union in our debate.

Seamus grew up in the Irish countryside in Dunloy County Antrim. His earliest memory was seeing his mother crying one evening after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. He grew up in a 25 acre farm which was basically bogland, the family income supplemented by his mother’s work as a nurse. There was real poverty in the 60s, particularly for Catholics in the North where he grew up, he said.

Seamus travelled to The University of Stirling for his degree, fell in love with Scotland and the rest is history as they say. The Holyrood website asked him whom he would invite to his ideal dinner party? “Eamon de Valera – I want to take him to task for the writing of the Irish constitution. Also Marie Curie. And the former Labour leader Hugh Gaitskell.. I’ll also have John F. Kennedy..The writers Seamus Heaney, Patrick Kavanagh and Robert Burns and the director Ridley Scott, and from Derry, the song writer Phil Coulter. And my two daughters Aislinn and Eimear who would love to meet them”. Asked about his greatest fear? “That I will die before Scotland has achieved its political right to self-determination”,Seamus replied.
